The Department of Defense has introduced stringent guidelines threatening to revoke journalists' access for unauthorized disclosures, even of unclassified information. The policy aims to safeguard national security but has drawn sharp criticism from press freedom advocates who view it as an encroachment on media rights.
Under the new rules, reporters risk losing Pentagon credentials if found sharing controlled information without approval. Such a MOVE could severely curtail coverage of military operations and defense affairs. The National Press Club and other organizations have condemned the restrictions as an overreach that undermines transparency.
